As officially announced today by the Belgian Plopsa Group – the theme park division of Studio 100 –, yesterday saw the beginning of the construction works for its new “Majaland” theme park at the Polish Holiday Park Kownaty, for which the license had been sold in 2014 (c.f. our reports in EAP issues 6/14, 4/15 & 2/16). The in- and outdoor areas of the new park, which is built on an area of ten hectares, will enable children and their parents to discover the world of the popular “Maya the Bee”, an IP character of Studio 100 amongst others like “Wickie” and “Heidi”.

The Holiday Park Kownaty, which is a recreation area initiated by Dutch investor Momentum Capital, complements its existing tourism and sports offer with the theme park. Steve van den Kerkhof, CEO of Plopsa Group, said: “The start of the construction of Majaland here at Holiday Park Kownaty is in perfect keeping with our growth targets. Majaland will be part of Studio 100 and Plopsa’s total entertainment formula and comparable to the zones developed within the existing Plopsa theme parks. The new theme park will let children and their parents experience an unforgettable adventure.”

Currently, Plopsa operates six theme parks in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany – the Polish site will be its first in the country and the seventh in total. The opening of Majaland is scheduled for December 2017 – about 300,000 visitors are estimated to pass by the park’s gates annually. (eap)
