China: Garfield to Be Signature Character in Children’s Areas of Six Flags-Branded Theme Parks in China

Main IP in the children’s areas of the two Six Flags-branded parks currently under construction in China will be cat “Garfield” from Jim Davis’ world-famous comic strip. Six Flags Entertainment Corporation and the real estate developer Riverside Tourism Investment Group will partner with Paws, Inc., an Indiana-based corporation of which Davis is President.

“From themed rides and attractions to live shows, character meet and greets and merchandise, guests will be fully immersed inside the clever world of Garfield and friends,” said John Odu, President, Six Flags International Development Company. Che Li, Chairman of the Riverside Investment Group, is convinced that the IP will be a success: “Garfield is already a beloved character in China and we look forward to bringing him to life inside Six Flags Zhejiang and Six Flags Chongqing.”

The total investment for Six Flags Zhejiang amounts to some 30 billion Yuan (approx. 4.1 billion Euro) and its opening is scheduled for 2019 (c.f. EAP news from January 21st, 2016). Six Flags Chongqing will welcome its first visitors one year later in 2020 (c.f. EAP news from February 24th, 2017). (eap)
