“Dracula” is the nickname of the largest and heaviest Pterosaurian species in the world known until to date. Parts of the skeleton of such a giant animal were excavated in the Romanian region of Transylvania. The reconstructed skeleton, which consists of numerous fossilized bones, was presented to the public at Germany’s Dinosaurier Museum Altmuehltal (cf. our cover story in EAP, 6/16) during today’s inauguration of the “Emperors of the Skies” special exhibition.

“This sensation underscores the Dinosaur Museum Altmuehltal’s claim to be one of the world’s most important exhibition venues for prehistoric times,” said Michael Völker, founder of the dinosaur museum. “Dracula”, who is the first representative of a previously unknown species, had an estimated wingspan of more than twelve meters. Its skeleton and the “Emperors of the Skies” special exhibition can be seen at Dinosaurier Museum Altmuehltal until November 4th, 2018.

Since its opening in mid-2016, the dinosaur park, which is located between the cities of Nuremberg and Munich, has welcomed more than 200,000 visitors. Over 70 life-sized exhibits, all of which were created by Wolter Design, are located along the circular park route. For its successful concept of “learning by experiencing”, Dinosaurier Museum Altmühltal recently received the ADAC Tourismuspreis Bayern 2018 award (Engl. “ADAC Tourism Award Bavaria 2018”). (eap)
