Germany: Roof of AquariUM Schwedt Collapsed

On Sunday afternoon at around 3:00 p.m., the roof of the indoor swimming pool of AquariUM, which is operated by Stadtwerke Schwedt GmbH, collapsed for reasons that are still unclear. According to the bath, “lucky in disguise“, as nobody was harmed by this incident, thanks to that neither employees nor construction workers were on site that day. “Emergency forces from the police and fire brigade immediately secured the site and cordoned off a wide area. As things stand, only property damage was caused. [...] Investigations will begin in the coming weeks,“ it said on the AquariUM‘s Facebook page on the day of the accident.

Now, two days after the collapse, there are still no further information about the incident. Mayor and chairman of the supervisory board Jürgen Polzehl commented: “You are encountering a city in a state of shock. The leisure and adventure pool has a special significance for Schwedt. The good news is that there was no personal injured.“ As we reported in EAP 2/2021, the bath recently invested a sum of four million euros in extensive renovations and a new tube slide to provide a modern facility for its 200,000 visitors per year. The indoor pool had its reopening rescheduled for July 15th. (eap)
