Abu Dhabi: Ferrari World Theme Park Under Construction

The large “Ferrari World Theme Park” project on Al Yas Island went into the final stages of construction at the end of last year. With an area space of 2.5 million square metres, the island is one of the largest natural islands in the Emirates. The theme park is ready to welcome the expected deluge of tourists with a uniquely designed Formula 1 racing track, a 300,000-square metre large shopping mall, several hotels, as well as two golf courses and a waterpark. So far, 24 attractions have been planned for the theme park – including a 70-metre tall G Force tower and a Twin Roller which lets visitors turn a roller coaster ride into a thrill-packed race against their partner and the clock. It is likely that Ferrari will collaborate on some attractive racing car simulators and there is sure to be an appeal to Mr Ecclestone to secure the first Formula 1 Grand Prix for Abu Dhabi. The project is to be implemented in two phases: the first phase is set to be completed in 2008, whilst the complete project is scheduled to run until 2014. After this, the island will be scarcely recognisable – according to sources, the “rediscovery” of the island will cost a cool 30 billion euros. (eap)
