No more legionellae in swimming pool water treatment

Siemens Industrial Solutions & Services (I&S) is offering a new method of swimming pool water treatment that, unlike conventional systems, completely prevents the formation of legionellae. A combination of flocculation, ozonization, multi-layer filtration, ultraviolet irradiation and chlorination complies with the requirements of DIN 19643 for the quality of swimming pool and bath water under all the conditions tested. Dispensing with activated carbon entirely rules out any formation of legionellae. This solution from the I&S Group company Wallace & Tiernan, Günzburg, Germany, has been positively appraised by the Institut für Wasser- und Umweltanalytik GmbH (institute of water and environmental analysis), Luisenthal, Germany. The alternative method is being used in the therapy pool of the Henneberg-Kliniken in Hildburghausen, Thuringia, Germany. (eap)
