France: Parc Astérix Celebrates Official Inauguration of Tonnerre 2 Zeus Wooden Coaster

This past weekend, Parc Astérix (part of the Compagnie des Alpes group) celebrated the official opening of the renewed and renamed wooden roller coaster “Tonnerre 2 Zeus” (formerly “Tonnerre de Zeus”). Together with actor and comedian Arnaud Ducret (front right), who is the godfather of the new attraction, park director Delphine Pons (front left) cut the ribbon during the opening ceremony. The refurbishment project of the roller coaster, which started about four years ago and involved an investment of seven million euros, was carried out by the US company The Gravity Group. Not only the new carriages, but also new ride elements and a somewhat modified track layout provide a new ride experience for the guests. Find all the details in our article “Even better after the upgrade: Tonnerre 2 Zeus” (P. 40), which appeared in our latest magazine issue 3/2022 (May/June).

Fun Fact: The panties of the meter-high Zeus figure, which as the namesake has always stood near the entrance of the attraction with raised scepter, also received a new design – in a survey via social media, park visitors and fans chose the new design. From now on, a pink panty with yellow ducklings covers the crotch of the father of the gods from Greek mythology. (eap)
