Australia: New Wooden Coaster “Leviathan” at Sea World Gold Coast Now Open

The Australian Sea World Marine Park Gold Coast – operated by Village Roadshow Theme Parks – recently opened its long-awaited new family thrill ride “Leviathan”. This is located in The New Atlantis themed area, which also includes a Top Spin® Suspended from Huss and a Swing Tower Ride from SBF-Visa (see EAP 6/2021). After a delay due to the pandemic, the new wooden roller coaster is now finally making its 900-plus meter laps. Manufactured by Martin & Vlemickx in cooperation with The Gravity Group, the coaster reaches a top speed of 80 kilometers per hour as well as a height of 32 meters and it thematically represents the rise of a sea creature from the depths of New Atlantis. A special feature of the ride is the last car, the seats of which are turned backwards. According to the park, the coaster is also the world’s first wooden coaster with four crossover sections.

“The Leviathan is a spectacular experience with guests embarking on a journey from the moment they enter the precinct passing by an enormous nine-meter Atlantean warrior statue to enter the ride queue which features incredible theming and state-of-the-art technology to fully-immerse them in an underwater utopian before they brave the 909 meter long wooden coaster,” says Village Roadshow CEO Clark Kirby.
