Netherlands: New Tourism and Leisure Destination HollandWorld® in Amsterdam to Be Developed Until 2023

Located on a 60-hectare site close to Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport, HollandWorld® is set to become a new large-scale tourism and leisure destination of the city to open in 2023, welcoming around four million visitors per year as “second gate” to absorb a large part of the growing flow of tourists crowding the streets of down-town Amsterdam. The planned location of HollandWorld is Park21 (c.f. EAP 6/14). This metropolitan park of 1,000 hectares is located in the municipality of Haarlemmermeer.

The HollandWorld project, for which detailed plannings are already on hand and in which numerous companies of the international leisure industry are involved, is comprehensive: In addition to 4,000 hotel rooms, 4,000 square metres of conference and meeting space and 30,000 square metres for themed retail and F&B experiences, HollandWorld will include a non-gated theme park, a health and spa centre, a casino as well as numerous other major attractions such as an art museum and a theatre. In addition, plans include a 30 hectare open air “Holland Festival City” event space directly adjacent to HollandWorld and a parking space of some 35 hectares.

The mega-project is being developed by HollandWorld BV – a newly established company under the umbrella of Unlimited Leisure – in cooperation with the Dutch real estate developer Delta Development Group. International Destination Strategies is responsible for the creative concept design and corporate PR. At present, the developers are in talks with hotel and leisure operators as well as potential investors. Most of the land is in municipal ownership. EAP will keep you informed about further news.
