Ferris Wheel and Free Fall Tower for Gothenburg

Gothenburg has a new tourist attraction: the 60-meter tall ferris wheel “Göteborgshjulet” was opened in the inner city next to the opera building near the harbor. The attraction designed by Bussink was supplied by Wheels of Excellence – owned by Vekoma since 2008. Each of the 42 glazed and air-conditioned gondolas can accommodate six to eight persons. The new tourist attraction operated by Liseberg during the next two years will probably be moved to Liseberg theme park in 2012, serving as a new lookout point there. (eap)

Furthermore, “Liseberg Tower”, the park’s attraction with a total height of 146 meters (above sea level) that has served as the lookout point for 20 years will be transformed into a free fall ride. With effect from spring 2011, the tower will start underground in the basement and take its guests to the top in around 100 seconds. The height between the tower’s top and the earth’s surface is 116 meters. The guests of the new attraction called “AtmosFear” built by Intamin will be in free fall for just over three seconds while reaching speeds of 110 km/h. During braking that will not be done until the basement is reached, the passengers are subjected to four g. At any rate, all existing attractions in the tower’s foyer and the new 3D film “Sammy’s Adventure” will continue as usual during the season. (eap)
