As the latest addition to the attractions line-up of Surfside Pier park, which is located on the boardwalk of the US coastal town Wildwood (New Jersey), a new Force 280 family coaster from German manufacturer Zierer was recently opened under the name of “Runaway Tram”, offering a family-friendly ride experience along a 281 meter (922 feet) long track. The attraction features one train with five carriages to accommodate a total of ten passengers at a time. At the beginning of the ride, guests are lifted up to a height of twelve meters, before rushing along the curvy and twisty track at maximum speeds of 48 km/h (30 mph).

The theming of the new coaster pays homage to the Wildwood Sightseer Tramcar, which has been operating on Wildwood Boardwalk for 70 years now and is known as an iconic tourist attraction. Attraction design company JRA custom-designed the ride’s train and the station. Morey’s Piers, the family-run operating company of Surfside Pier and four other pier and water parks on Wildwood Boardwalk, invested a total of four million USD (approx. 3.57 million EUR) into the novelty. This year, Morey’s Piers celebrates its 50th anniversary. (eap)
