Germany: Asia Craved in Ice at Karls Erlebnis-Dorf

Today marks the opening date of the fifth iceworld in Germay‘s Karls Erlebnis-Dorf Elstal near Berlin. The exhibition with this year’s theme “Asia – the Far East very close“ is located in the “DAS EISWERK“ ice hall on a exhibition ground of 2,000 square metres. 26 artists from 100 countries created 19 different stations from 300 tons of ice, which showcase the diverse Asian culture from the ceramic warriors of the Chinese Emperor and the eagle huntsman of Altai to old cultures of Siberia and Shaolin-monchs. The exhibition’s highlight is a ten metre long Chinese lucky dragon called “Long“ (photo right). The sculptures are highlighted with music and light to create the right atmosphere – in addition, there are slides made of ice for kids and an ice bar for adults.

Angelito Baban, from the Philippines the current ice carving world champion, was one of the international artworkers, which were directed by Othmar Schiffer-Belz. The exhibition will be open at Karls Erlebnis-Dorf from today through November 2020.

Karls Erlebnis-Dorf in Roevershagen today celebrated the opening of its new theme area "Bonbon Land" – read all about it in our upcoming magazine issue no. 1/2020 (Jan/Feb). (eap)
