Netherlands: Madurodam Miniature World Reveals Plans for Multimillion Euro “The Flying Dutchman“ Attraction

Netherland’s KLM Airline celebrated its 100th anniversary last year. On this occasion, Den Haag-based Madurodam miniature world decided to create the new visitor attraction “The Flying Dutchman“, which is an original KLM aircraft of the type “Douglas DC-3“. The aircraft will be restored and equipped with a wide range of entertainment-related technological features. Visitors will be immersed into the Netherland’s history and will take a “flight through time and space“, according to Madurodam. Until the first “test flights“ in June this year, builders will have spent more than 18 months restoring and transforming the silver-coloured airplane.

“An attraction of this size is asking a lot of our professionals’ knowledge and skills. We’ve never worked on a scale of 1:1 before. What’s more, everything in the aircraft is being made entirely to measure. In that sense, The Flying Dutchman also demonstrates our own pioneering spirit and forward-looking mind-set […],” explains Joris van Dijk, Managing Director of Madurodam. With an investment of 3.5 million euros, “The Flying Dutchman“ will be the most expansive and at thesame time largest attraction in Mandurodam until to date. (eap)
