Industry Associations Develop Strategies for the Reopening of Leisure Facilities

What could operational procedures in leisure facilities look like after the current shutdown when it comes to reopening? What measures are necessary in theme parks, zoos and adventure pools to keep the risk of virus infection among visitors and employees at a low level? And what preparations can be made right now to welcome guests again as soon as possible?

This kind of questions is what trade associations in the leisure industry are currently dealing with. In dialogue with its members, the European Waterpark Association (EWA), for example, has projected a two-stage plan for the reopening of leisure pools and spa facilities. It includes proposals such as the reduction of the total number of visitors permitted in a swimming pool operation and the observance of distances between guests as well as increased hygiene standards in catering, changing rooms and sanitary facilities.

The German Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (VDFU) states in a recent letter to political decision-makers in the country, which requirements German amusement parks and zoos already fulfill in order to continue to counteract the further spread of the corona virus after reopening. In addition, it specifies in concrete terms which other measures can be thought of and integrated into the operating procedures, such as additional hygiene measures and face protection masks.

Members and interested parties can find more information about the latest measures in the fight against the pandemic, economical aid programs and updates about current developments on the websites of their respective associations. (eap)
