Sweden: Liseberg Stays Optimistic Despite The Crisis

Despite the fact, that Sweden’s theme Parks are not allowed to open this summer due to an outdated legislation, which separates parks into two sections – with and without mechanical amusement rides – developments at Liseberg are not on hold. The park just presented new images of fantastic “Grand Curiosa Hotel“, which is currently under construction and set to open in 2023. “We have been categorized with music festivals, stadium concerts and large sport events – rather than with shopping malls or outdoor attractions like zoos. It makes very little sense. We were probably the first group of parks in Europe, whom developed and presented thorough plans for a responsible re-opening. But unfortunately, we were never given the chance to implement these“, comments Andreas Andersen, CEO & President of Liseberg.

In autumn 2019, the park received green light for the hotel development (cf. EAP news of 25 Sep 2019). Andreas Andersen is optimistic about the future: “2020 has so far been a tough year for the whole industry and for Liseberg. To see the project that we have put so much time and effort into, come to life – it feels nothing short of amazing. As the construction continues it becomes more and more tangible and is a testament to the fact that we believe in the future of the industry post-Covid.” (eap)
