Bad Cannstatt: Mobility and Adventure Centre

The knowledge park with a new planetarium (400,000 visitors anticipated p.a.) in the Stuttgart district of Bad Cannstatt runs the risk of being shelved. The project was originally set to open in 2010/11 and the city of Stuttgart had promised to fund it with 25 million euros, yet the selection of an operator will be rolled out again due to an erroneous call for bids. The architects’ competition has been stopped for the time being, as the Stuttgarter Zeitung daily newspaper reported on the 5th of November. On the 17th of July 2008, the district council of the state capital had decided to negotiate the necessary contracts with Petri & Tiemann GmbH. The second-ranking bidding consortium filed a revision application with the public procurement chamber in the state of Baden-Württemberg, which was completely repealed. However, the higher regional court of Karlsruhe has now overruled the public procurement chamber’s decision. No appeal to this decision can be filed. Says Lord Mayor Dr Wolfgang Schuster: “I regret this decision even though I must accept it. Carlo Petri has proved in Bremen that he can competently and successfully operate a science centre. His conceptual visions were preferred by a broad majority of the advisory board and district council especially due to their pedagogic standard.” An unfortunate intermezzo. (eap)
