USA: American Dream Mall Reopens after Closure for Seven Months

After closing its doors to visitors on March, 16th, due to the corona pandemic, American Dream Mall has celebrated its reopening on October 1st after around seven months of total closure. As of September 1st, visitors have already been able to visit the “Big Snow“ indoor ski slope. With the reopening of the mall, the official opening of the DreamWorks Waterpark indoor waterpak (cf. EAP 4/2020), which also had to close on March 19th after only a few days of soft opening operation, was celebrated, too. The Mall now operates at a reduced capacity of 25 percent as well as with enhanced hygiene and safety measures. From the total of 20 visitor experiences, nine are open for guests, including the “Nickelodeon Theme Park“ (cf. EAP 1/2020) as well as about100 retail stores.

“I think that over the last six to seven months, people have been cooped up in their homes in New York and New Jersey looking for a place to go, looking for something to do and do it in a very safe environment. We think with our theme park, our water park and all of the various attractions that we got in American Dream, that we really will be able to wipe that outlet for people to really go out and start feeling like they can live again […] maintaining that really important aspect of safety as well,“ explains Mark Ghermezian, Co-CEO of American Dream Mall, to the American broadcast station CBNC.
