Science Center Wels, Austria: Construction Set to Start in Late 2008

In the first quarter of this year, a precontract for the planned Science Center Wels was signed by the Wels exhibition centre, the state of Upper Austria and the project developer Petri & Tiemann (Hamburg/Bremen). Twenty-two million euros are to be invested by the time the facility opens in 2010. The focal point of the future science centre in Wels: renewable energy. With a building space of 5,400 square metres, the world of knowledge in Wels will be somewhat larger than its highly popular counterpart run by Petri & Tiemann in Bremen, the Universum. Other partners of the science centre project include an internationally renowned corporation based in Wels, Kraftwerk Living Technologies, which has been collaborating with Petri & Tiemann for quite some time now. The first groundbreaking ceremony is to be held at the turn of the year, 2008/09. (eap)
