Germany: TimeRide Cologne to Feature New VR Experience as of Early Summer 2021

In autumn 2017, TimeRide GmbH, founded in Munich in 2016, launched a new VR adventure with the opening of their first experience exhibition in Cologne (we reported in EAP 5/2017). Since then, around 350,000 visitors have been welcomed at the site in the Rhine metropolis. Four other locations of the tourist attraction with a local historical reference were opened in the meantime – in Dresden, Berlin, Munich and since 2020 also in Frankfurt. Recently, the company announced a new thematic focus for the Cologne exhibition: the 1920s.

The virtual adventure will immersive visitors into the year 1926, where they will become contemporary witnesses of the everyday life of people in the interwar period. Once again, guests will be seated in a historical car of the Cologne electric tram for the VR adventure. “Multisensory special effects, interactive elements and an emotional 360-degree panoramic view make the Cologne attitude towards life of that time tangible up close,” according to the organizers. “The time travel to the Cologne from 1926 has a very strong reference to nowadays,” explains Jonas Rothe, founder and managing director of TimeRide GmbH. “A look into Cologne’s history shows us very clearly that even after the most serious crises, better times are coming, if you just don’t give up. With this homage to the confidence and the unbending cheerfulness of the people of Cologne, we would also like to give our visitors a sense of optimism and joie de vivre.” The journey to the Cologne of the Golden Twenties is expected to debut in early summer 2021.
