Germany: Movie Park Germany Focuses on Sustainability and Receives “ÖKOPROFIT“ Certification

Werner Nowotny (l.), Betriebsleiter des Movie Park Germany und Bottrops Oberbürgermeister Bernd Tischler präsentieren stolz die ÖKOPROFIT-Auszeichnung.

Movie Park Germany aims at making its operations more sustainable and environmentally friendly, and had thus joined the “ÖKOPROFIT“ initiative, which was conceived in Austria and has since been organized internationally, in September 2019. After successfully completing several workshops, specific consultations and an audit, the park now received the official “ÖKOPROFIT“ certificate during a symbolic handover ceremony at Bottrop City Hall with Mayor Bernd Tischler.

“Being a large company, participation in the ÖKOPROFIT initiative is very important for us. We want to take responsibility to make our operations climate neutral,“ explains Werner Nowotny, operations manager at Movie Park Germany. “The goal is a more sustainable and at the same time more efficient use of energy and raw materials.“ In doing so, the park not only wants to create more awareness for sustainability among its employees, but also improve its waste balance and use new technologies to be more economical with resources. For example, a total of around 75,000 kWh of energy are to be saved each year.

The ÖKOPROFIT initiative is a cooperation project for companies. The aim is to strengthen businesses economically and ecologically in the long term. A system of coordinated measures is set to enable companies to reduce costs and increase their eco-efficiency. In ÖKOPROFIT, practical measures are developed and implemented with external professional support. The company B.A.U.M. Consult, which has offices in Munich, Hamm and Hamburg, acts as the consulting partner for Movie Park Germany.

“It takes committed companies and committed people to achieve the goal of a sustainable economy. Against this background, I am particularly pleased to have encountered both at Movie Park Germany. With a great deal of commitment, the Movie Park team here has been able to take further steps towards environmental and climate protection,“ said Dr. Stefan Große-Allermann, project manager at B.A.U.M. Consult GmbH. “We are looking forward to future developments, where we will be happy to assist the park in an advisory capacity.“

Among other things, an important focus for more sustainable operations at Movie Park is the use of fewer plastics and the increased use of regional products in catering. For the product selection in its stores, the park, which is operated by Parques Reunidos, works with certified suppliers. In addition, Movie Park focuses on economical water consumption also within the attractions, citing just a few examples of its measures. (eap)
