Germany: Schwaben Park Plans Indoor Facility

Since 1972, Germany’s Schwaben Park has been a go-to theme park experience especially for families of the federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. During the past years the park put much effort into the creation of new visitors attractions regularly, such as the new bumblebee-themed “Hummel Brummel“ ride experience – a 500 meter long Wie-Flyer supplied by Wiegand – which was opened last year (cf. EAP 3/20).

For the next years the park, which has been operated by the father-son-duo Thomas and André Hudelmaier since the beginning of this year, plans to develop a new indoor facility. The opening of this new indoor attraction, which has an estimated investment volume of three to five million Euros and will thus mark the largest investment in the park’s history, was originally planned for 2022. Anyhow, Schwaben Park will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. However, the development plans were hindered by the emergence of a citizens' movement against these park expansion plans. So, the park management started searching for a suitable location in Bavaria or Baden-Wuerttemberg.

“The decision to open a second location was made last year. Due to the current situation the search for a suitable location is even more difficult,“ explains André Hudelmaier, General Manager of Schwaben Park, and adds: “We have already looked at interesting objects including an indoor facility which includes the necessary infrastructure and an F&B area amongst others. After our development plans became known publicly, numerous communities have sent us their offers which we now have to proof and screen.“

The new indoor park, which is planned to become two to three hectares large, is supposed to offer several attractions including an indoor roller coaster as well as F&B offerings. To attract visitors also during the summer time, the facility plans on including an outdoor area which could offer smaller attractions such as water play elements. (eap)
