USA: Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park Announces New “Phoenix” Family Thrill Coaster

Founded in 1983 by the Vourderis family, Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park (today: Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park) was created around the “Wonder Wheel” Ferris wheel, which was built back in 1920 and has carried the name addition “Deno’s” since 1983 when it was purchased by Denos D. Vourderis. As one of the oldest and most popular rides on Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York, the 46-meter-tall Ferris wheel was declared an official landmark of the city by the Landmarks Preservation Commission of the City of New York in 1989. In addition to the landmark attraction, which turned 100 years old last year, the amusement park, located in the middle of Luna Park, is home to 20 other family-friendly attractions. Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park is set to add another highlight this season.

“Phoenix”, a new Suspended Family Coaster supplied by the Dutch roller coaster specialists at Vekoma, is expected to open soon, providing an extra dose of thrills for the family audience. With a track length of just over 370 meters, the train, which seats a total of 20 passengers, will reach a maximum speed of 53 kilometers per hour. During the ride on the suspended roller coaster, whose train is located under the track, guests’ feet dangle freely in the air.

In the US state of New York, outdoor amusement parks have been allowed to reopen since April 9 (see EAP News of 23 Feb 2021) and since then Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park has also been open to guests again after an 18-month closure period. (eap)
