GB: London Resort Announces Theme Area “Base Camp“ with Prehistoric Storyline

The development of the London Resort does not stand still, and the implications of the designation by Natural England defining the grounds as a “Site of Special Scientific Interest” (SSSI) because of a high biodiversity and habitat of an endangered jumping spider push the resort developers even further in their ambitions to create a “gold standard” of a sustainable theme park resort. Following the announcement of several theme areas for the two planned parks in late 2019 (cf. EAP news of 9 Dec 2019), the planners behind the large-scale project have just released more details on a first zone, which will be named “Base Camp” and be dedicated to dinosaurs, other primeval animals and paleontology.

With a large variety of attractions, Base Camp will offer visitors a fascinating primeval experience with a great amount of fun and thrill but also educational facts. The first of two rollercoasters planned for the land will be dedicated to Quetzalcoatlus – the train of the multi launch coaster will accelerate to around 112 km/h (70 mph) and will rush through a one-kilometer-long track system which will run through tree tops and canyons and skim the water. The ride aims at imitating the hunt of this predator, which was one of the largest flying reptiles on the planet. A second family-friendly rollercoaster for children is also planned.

To provide visitors with a look into the depths of the primeval ocean, an immersive motion-based 4D ride experience will bring guests “under water” where they will be able to go on the search for some aquatic reptiles such as Mosasaurs and Ichthyosaurs. Further experiences will include an interactive play area, ziplines, climbing walls, tunnels and digging areas as well as an interactive dark ride, which will use modern gaming technology to enlist the help of guests to track and tag a variety of dinosaurs and ancient reptiles in the wild. Additionally, an event location with room for 1,500 persons and two F&B offerings will be part of the area.

“Base Camp’s design is based on a philosophy of what an actual, modern day, prehistorical nature reserve might look like. There will be thrills, spills and high energy rides combined with opportunities to get up close and personal with some of the most amazing creatures ever to walk the earth. However, unlike popular films that depict dinosaurs as villains, things don’t always go terribly wrong here. We are building a land of preservation and celebration of dinosaurs,” commented Pierre-Yves Gerbeau, CEO of the London Resort Company Holdings. (eap)
