Dreamworld/Australia: “Mick Doohan’s Motocoaster” from Intamin

The Australian racing driver legend Mick Doohan (five-time motorcycle world champion in the 500ccc champions league) has lent his name to Intamin’s Motocoaster, which is to be opened at the Australian amusement park Dreamworld in September. With the high degree of prestige Doohan continues to enjoy in Australia, this name is quasi a guarantee for the success of the new attraction. The ride is Australia’s first Motocoaster ever. On the outside, the “racing motorcycles” are true-to-original replicas of the 500ccm bikes, but they “only” reach a speed of 72 km/h along the course of the launch coaster’s 605-metre long track. Fourteen bikes are mounted on each train, in addition to two aerodynamically designed sidecars. (eap)
