USA/Brazil: Storyland Studios to Design New Location-Based Entertainment Concepts for Grupo Cataratas

The design and production company Storyland Studios, which operates offices in California, London and Hong Kong, recently announced that it will develop numerous new location-based entertainment destinations for Grupo Cataratas, one of the largest tourism operators in South America and headquartered in Brazil. Storyland will also develop a themed entertainment strategy for the group, which includes identifying locations for potential attractions, which will be dedicated to physical activity, IPs and edutainment as well as both indoor and outdoor water parks, and create the concept development for the attractions.

Ben Thompson, Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Global Clients at Storyland Studios, explains: “Brazil is home to some of earth’s richest landscapes, and many of the most undiscovered parts of our world; places, communities, cultures and histories that have not yet been documented to this day. Grupo Cataratas are a wonderful organisation because their core purpose is about celebrating and securing the legacy of the natural environment; the flora and the fauna, the indigenous species, the landscapes and the ecology of this beautiful country. Grupo Cataratas see their role as custodians of the natural world, creating educational, fun experiences that immerse and educate people in the things that really matter in our world.”

Grupo Cataratas currently operates six tourism destinations throughout Brazil, including the BioParque do Rio zoo and the Iguazu Falls visitor center. Near to the Iguazu visitor center, a new giant aquarium is currently under construction, scheduled to open in 2023 under the name of AquaFoz and to be operated by Cataratas, too. (eap)
