Last Thursday (May 7, 2015) saw the groundbreaking ceremony for “Ferrari Land” – the new theme park in PortAventura, Spain, scheduled to open in 2016 (cp. EAP, issue 3/2014). The ceremony was held in the presence of Artur Mas, President of Catalonia, Arturo Mas-Sardá, President of PortAventura Resort, Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene and Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel to herald the start of construction of the 7.5 hectare large Ferrari theme park. For the ceremony, Ferrari brought a piston which was in use in 2014 – the year in which the agreement between PortAventura and Ferrari for collaboration was signed – as well as a cornerstone, coming from the home of Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari in Maranello. After the stone had been signed by the gentlemen, it was placed where it can still be seen after the park’s opening. (eap)
