Netherlands: Efteling Concretises Plans for New Attraction

Yesterday, the Dutch amusement park Efteling published more details with regard to a new attraction, which is scheduled to open in summer 2017 in the center of the park. “Symbolica: Palace of Fantasy” will be Eftelings fourth indoor theme ride for the whole family. While travelling through the new Efteling palace, guests will encounter the park’s mascot, “Pardoes, the Wizard”, and discover his property while sitting in six-seat wagons. Before they start their journey, visitors have the possibility to choose between three different routes. Efteling invests a total of 35 million euros in its new interactive theme ride, making it not only the largest but also the most expensive attraction in the park’s history.

“We are pleased to announce the opening of Symbolica in 2017, the year of our 65th anniversary,” says Efteling’s CEO Fons Jurgens. In addition to the theme ride, the park plans to open new overnight accommodations in its anniversary year. Efteling will invest around 30 million euros in the new area featuring 1,000 beds. In summer 2015, the amusement park introduced its last new attraction, the “Baron 1898” dive coaster (cf. EAP, issue 5/2015). (eap)
