Hamburg/Germany: Visitors Marvel at „Italy“ at Miniatur Wunderland
After four years of construction and a total of 180,000 working hours, Hamburg’s Miniatur Wunderland recently opened its new “Italy” theme world, the completion of which was initially scheduled for summer 2015 (c.f. EAP news from July 2nd, 2013).
30,000 handmade figures, more than 500 churches, houses and bridges as well as hundred trains form the precise landscape of “Italy”. “In terms of precision and love of detail our model builders have raised model building to a new level. Every village chapel, however small, has been modeled according to an original and has been created in laborious manual work. We had to re-schedule the opening several times and costs have been higher as expected but the result was worth every minute and Euro,” enthuses Gerrit Braun, Co-Founder of Miniatur Wunderland. So far, “Italy” covers the capital Rome, Tuscany, Cinque Terre, South Tyrol, the Amalfi Coast and Pompei with its well-known volcano Vesuvius. Venice is expected to follow as a separate section by next year. To date, more than four million Euro have been invested in the construction of the 190 square meter area.
Furthermore, on October 4th, 2016, Miniatur Wunderland has been honored as Germany’s number one sight – the German Tourism Center (G.: “Deutsche Zentrale für Tourismus”) conducted its annual online survey from March until August this year, with more than 40,000 participants from 66 countries.
