Following the success of its PowerSplash ride „Pulsar“ opened in the 2016 season (cp. EAP 3/16), Belgium’s Walibi theme park, which is part of Compagnie des Alpes and welcomes around 1.3 million visitors per year, has just announced comprehensive investment measures for the next few years. Starting as of next year, more than 100 million Euros will be invested in the renovation and expansion of the park, transforming 75 percent of the total premises. This includes not only the creation of new attractions but also the re-theming of existing park areas.

2018 will see the opening of a new family coaster at the park, while the Aqualibi waterpark will be expanded by the addition of a 700 square meter large water playground for young visitors. In 2019, the other park areas are planned to be re-themed, including the addition of a new interactive indoor family attraction, a coaster targeted at children as well as a restaurant. In the following year, the renovation of the park’s Western theme area is planned. The re-construction measures will culminate in the year 2021 with the opening of a thrilling major rollercoaster that will be located in an all-new theme area at the park. Construction and transformation measures at the park will be completed in 2022/23.

„This ambitious investment plan allows us to strengthen our position as the biggest and most exciting theme park in Belgium. Walibi has always been up in the forefront when it comes to offer unique experiences to its audience. We are convinced that we will thrill families and teenagers alike“, says park director Jean-Christophe Parent. (eap)
