Australia: Beyond Skyway – New Extreme Experience on the Rooftop of the Scenic World Cable Car in 270 Meters Height

In search of adventure, individual tourists in particular are drawn to Australia year after year, for example to go on a round trip in a camper van and not only discover the country’s fascinating flora and fauna. Adventurous experiences such as skydiving, white-water rafting, bungee jumping or surfing are among the top activities that attract international tourists to “Down Under”.

This is also true of the Scenic World tourist attraction in the Blue Mountains (state of New South Wales) in the east of the country, which is visited by around 1.1 million guests every year and is a popular tourist destination with various offers. The “Scenic Railway”, for example, is the world’s steepest passenger railway, with a 310-meter-long track that climbs the rock faces of the mountains at an incline of 52 degrees. Australia’s first ever cable car, the iconic “Scenic Skyway”, was opened there in 1958 and was replaced a few years ago by a new installation from Doppelmayr/Garaventa which takes passengers over the gorge above Katoomba Falls. The passenger cabin of this single-track aerial cable car can accommodate up to 84 people and offers breathtaking views of the Three Sisters rock formation, Mount Solitary and the Jamison Valley during the spectacular ride.

Most recently, a new thrill experience was added to the cable car adventure: on “Beyond Skyway”, up to four guests at a time – secured by a fully-body harness, of course, and accompanied by a crew – can make their way to the rooftop of the gondola suspended 270 meters above the valley. From there, guests can then take a seat on a picnic blanket or wooden bench to enjoy the view with a drink. Only 16 people per evening can experience Beyond Skyway each evening. (eap)
