Australia: World’s Largest Spider at Jamberoo Action Park

On time with the beginning of its summer season, Australia’s Jamberoo Action Park in New South Wales can be pleased about a special recognition – the park’s giant themed “Funnel Web Spider”, which was completed earlier this year as theming element of the “Funnel Web” ProSlide Tornado ride opened in 2012 (cp. EAP, issue 2/2013), has been recognized with a Guinness World Record as world’s “Largest Spider Sculpture”.

Dax Eddy, Jamberoo Action Park’s Executive Director said “Receiving a Guinness World Record for building The BIG Funnel Web is tremendous recognition and something that will really excite our guests this season. Completing the BIG Funnel Web was a real labour of love, as it took us over 12 months to construct at a cost of over $1/4 million dollars.” Made from steel, fiberglass and concrete, the big spider was manufactured by Malaysian company Strike Theming & Leisure (STL). Featuring 19.7 meters in height, 22.2 meters in width and 15 meters in length, the park’s Funnel Web Spider is over 420 times larger than the animal it depicts. (eap)
