China: Animatronic Show at Chimelong’s Penguin Hotel

In 2014, the Chimelong Ocean Kingdom theme park was opened in Guangzhou, China (cf. EAP, issue 04/2014). Recently, a new attraction has entered the Penguin Hotel which belongs to Ocean Kingdom Resort. Performed by 16 life-sized animatronic penguins on a stage of ice, guests to the hotel have the possibility to see the new “Penguins on Parade” show at the Emperor Penguin restaurant. The eight and a half-minute musical revue is supposed to entertain people of all ages. It features penguin characters from different places around the world, e.g. “MC Peng” from Antarctica or “Miss Isabelle” from New Zealand. In the musical, the penguins delivered by US-based animatronic and dark ride creator Sally Corporation, sing songs based upon the country of their origin. A light show and a video production accompany the show. “After completing the ‘White Tiger Mountain’ show for Chimelong Paradise we were asked to create another show for the new Penguin Hotel at the award winning Ocean Kingdom Resort. We worked with the talented team of designers at Bruce Robinson and Associates to create the ice castle setting and compose the production. After writing and producing all soundtracks, the entire production was translated into Mandarin and talent was brought in from around the Guangzhou area to bring the appropriate personalities to our characters,” Sally Corporation’s CEO John Wood explains.
