China: Disney Opens First Own Marvel Attraction at Hong Kong Disneyland

Today saw the opening of the “Iron Man Experience” 3-D motion simulator, which is the first Marvel-themed ride at a Disney park, at Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL). Visitors to the park can explore the “Stark Expo” located in HKDL’s “Tomorrowland” theme area, exhibiting the latest high-tech developments in the four exhibition areas “Hall of Legacy”, “Hall of Protection”, “Hall of Energy” and “Hall of Mobility”.

Afterwards guests take seat in an “Iron Wing” vehicle to join Marvel’s Tony Stark alias Iron Man in a tour of approx. 4.5 minutes duration through Hong Kong to fight against the alien “Hydra”. Besides the fictional Tony Stark Tower the storyline features well-known Honk Kong landmarks such as the Tsing Ma Bridge and Victoria Harbour as well as streets that resemble those in West Kowloon and downtown to create an authentic ride experience. 45 guests can participate in this adventure at the same time.

“We’re thrilled to be adding the high-tech, action-packed universe of Marvel to Hong Kong Disneyland, and we’ll continue building on it as we move into the next phase of expansion,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. In addition to further Marvel-themed attractions, HKDL will open the “Disney Explorers Lodge” resort hotel within the first half of this year. Furthermore, the park plans to add an all-new “Frozen”-themed area in the future (c.f. EAP news from November 25th, 2016). (eap)
