Denmark: Construction of New LEGO Experience Center in Billund

In the Danish city of Billund, the headquarters of LEGO Group and the world’s first Legoland theme park, the new “LEGO® House – Home of the Brick” experience center is currently under construction to offer LEGO fans of all ages a place to discover the popular brand and to learn more about the company’s history.

The total area of some 12,000 square meters will feature six individual experience zones with different playing and learning opportunities for visitors. Furthermore, the new building complex will host three restaurants and a merchandising store. Thanks to its unique design in the form of large LEGO bricks, visitors will be able to see the center from afar.

Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, Owner of the LEGO Group, explained the concept of the new experience center, “The LEGO House will show the past, present and future of the LEGO idea and I am certain it will be a fantastic place where LEGO fans of all ages and their families and friends will get a wide range of unique LEGO experiences. It is our belief that LEGO play fosters innovative thinking and the LEGO House gives us an opportunity to make it very tangible what LEGO play offers and how it stimulates children’s creativity and learning.”

Construction works of the new building already began in 2014, on basis of the development plans of architecture firm BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group). The 23 meter high experience center is scheduled to open in the second half of 2017. (eap)
