Germany: Adventure Zoo Hannover Announces Plans for „Panorama at the Zoo“

The Adventure Zoo Hannover and the Berlin-based artist Yadegar Asisi recently announced its cooperation in a project named “Panorama at the Zoo”, which is scheduled to open in autumn 2017. This will be an exhibition of 360 degree panoramic images of nature, the first of which will be titled “AMAZONIA – A Fascinating Tropical Rainforest” (G.: “AMAZONIEN – Faszination tropischer Regenwald”).

This month, the zoo will begin with the construction of a 32 meter high rotunda right next to the zoo’s ground. The facility will feature three visitor platforms at six, twelve and 15 meters height for an overarching perspective.

“From the very first moment, I was fascinated by the idea of bringing together panorama and zoo”, said Yadegar Asisi. “It will be an exciting combination of two different approaches to similar issues. I am excited to see how the Hanoverian citizens and visitors will accept the new concept. I believe that there will be synergies that we even cannot think of today.” Andreas M. Casdorff, Managing Director of the Adventure Zoo Hannover, emphasized the uniqueness of the cooperation: “Natural panoramas like ‘Amazonia’ or ‘Great Barrier Reef’ are a perfect addition to our zoo’s themed areas. They offer impressive and touching insights into other endangered natural environments that we as a zoo cannot show until to date.” For the future, further nature panoramas are planned, following the panorama of the Amazonian rainforest.
