Germany: Michelangelo’s Frescos of the Sistine Chapel to Be Presented as Reproductions at Odysseum Cologne

The works of the Italian painter Michelangelo, which adorn a large part of the walls and the inner ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome, will be presented during the special exhibition “Der andere Blick” (Eng. “The other perspective”) at the science center Odysseum in Cologne as a reproduction and in reversed perspective. The scenery showcasing Michelangelo’s impressive works includes paintings and frescos starting with the “Creation of Adam” up to “The Last Judgment” and will occupy some 1,200 square metres divided into two areas. In the first area a large section of the Sistine Chapel’s wall paintings will be presented to the visitors, whereas in the second area guests can ascend a scaffold of 1.75 metres height to look at the frescos fixed on the ground for the reversed perspective, as they usually can be seen in the inner ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. In more than one and a half-years’ time the frescos have been reproduced on cloth in nearly their original size and on the basis of photos provided by the Vatican Museums. Multimedia and interactive exhibits featuring the topic “arts”, e.g. a painting and fresco workshop, round the offer to visitors. Responsible for this exhibition project is the AWC AG in cooperation with the German agency Exhibition 4 You GmbH & Co. KG. Its opening is scheduled for June 17th, 2016 at the Odysseum in Cologne.
