Germany: New RheinRiff Indoor Surfing Facility to Offer Wave Riding Fun from December

The RheinRiff, a 9,000-square-meter sports and event location, will open this December in Meerbusch (near Düsseldorf) as what the developing company RheinRiff GmbH says is going to be “the world’s largest indoor surfing hall.” The main attraction will be a standing wave by citywave, which will enable surfing enthusiasts to ride waves even a closed roof. In addition to surfing, the location, which is being built in an old steel mill, will feature a conference center as well as a surf store, bars, lounges and beach volleyball courts. around 115 kilometers northeast of Meerbusch, the SURFWRLD an artificial outdoor surfing facility is currently under development as well.

“This is an extremely exciting time for all of us right now. We are counting the days until December and can’t wait to finally open our surf wave,” said Julien Thiele, General Manager of RheinRiff GmbH. Fabian Strödel, Technical Manager of citywave, adds: “At the boot trade fair, surf enthusiasts in the region were already able to get to know citywave. With the opening of the indoor facility in the ‘RheinRiff’ we can now surf all year round and offer surfing for everyone under ideal and safe conditions.” (eap)
