Germany: New Themed Play Structures at Zoo Dortmund – Implementation of the “Zoo 2023” Progresses

At Zoo Dortmund, young visitors can no longer just curiously observe Sumatran orangutan “Walter”, who has been living in the zoo for 15 years now – Walter has also recently moved in the zoo made of wood in the shape of a new themed play structure kids can climb on and play with. The new play structure, realized by Germany’s Spielart Laucha, can be found in a spacious sandpit and features balancing elements, a low suspension bridge and a small slide. A new climbing structure with a sloth has also been created by Spielart.

These novelties are two of numerous projects of the “Zoo Dortmund 2023” future concept, in the realization of which the City of Dortmund is investing a total of 31 million euros. In addition to smaller infrastructure measures, other projects include the modernization and optimization of animal enclosures, which is why there are currently several construction sites at the zoo. According to Zoo Dortmund’s website, the animal population is to be essentially maintained and not reduced further. (eap)
