Germany’s Alpamare Bad Tölz Will Close Down

For about a year already the closure of the Alpamare water park in Bad Tölz, Germany, which was opened in 1970, has been discussed. Now the closure is sealed: It’s only a matter of time when the once very successful and trend setting waterpark and thermal spa facility will close its doors forever. The waterpark will be closed in 2016 at the latest and be demolished afterwards. The reason is the failed negotiations of Jodquellen AG, owner and operator of Alpamare in Bad Tölz, with the municipality about the future of the waterpark. While the municipality ultimately wanted to tear off a wing of the Alpamare in favor of the construction of a new spa facility, the Jodquellen AG provided plans for a renovation of the existing facility. When both parties were unable to come to an agreement, the municipality decided to plan the construction of a smaller spa facility at another location on the outskirts of the city. Plans also include the construction of a new hotel.

As a consequence, the Hotel Jodquellenhof, which is located adjacent to the Alpamare and can look back on a tradition of more than 125 years, was closed at the end of November. Without a modernized waterpark, “the perspective for a modern and high-quality hotel at this location is missing”, says Dr. Anton Hoefter, CEO of Jodquellen AG. He now plans to build a new “Gesundheitspark Jodquellenhof” (roughly health park Jodquellenhof) featuring medial offices, medical practitioners and physical therapists as well as rehabilitation and fitness programs, supplemented by housing areas.
