Germany/China: Chinese Company Holds Major Part of Robot Manufacturer Kuka

The majority of Kuka’s shareholders recently sold its shares to the Chinese Midea Group. Located in China’s Guangdong province, the manufacturer of air conditioners, kitchen appliances and washing machines now holds 94.5 percent of the German company, which is mainly known from industrial production as well as for the Kuka Robocoaster. According to media reports, the overall takeover process is expected to be completed by March 2017.

The main focus of this takeover is said to be China’s high interest in key technologies, particularly in high-tech mechanical engineering and production technology. (eap)
