Greece: New Museum Displays Olympic History in Athens

Only a few metres away from the olympic sports complex, the Athens Olympic Museum, which shows a chronological narration of the olympic history in the Greek capital, has opened its doors this summer. The exhibition highlights three periods: the birth of Olympia in the ancient time, the revival of the Olymic games in 1896 and the return of the games to Athens in 2004. Historic exhibits such as Olympic torches, medals and memorabilia are on display, but modern exhibition productions including AR technology, sound effects and projections are used as well to create an emotional visitor experience.

For a 360-degree projection mapping spanning 14 metres wide around one room, Athens-based system integrator Omikron Electronics, who is responsible for handling engineering, supply and integration of systems, decided on the implementation of the camera-based auto alignment technology Anystation Anyblend by VIOSO. The provider‘s technological systems have been installed in other exhibition areas as well. The Athens Olympic Museum has been realised by real estate company LAMDA Development S.A. (eap)
