The “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga” movie with the US-American actors Will Farrell and Rachel McAdams was released on the streaming platform Netflix in 2020. It tells the story of a musician duo who aim at fulfilling their dream to participate in the “Eurovision Song Contest”. The two fictional characters come from the town of Húsavík on the north coast of Iceland. The film brought media attention to the town of about 2,300 inhabitants, whose main income comes from fishing and whale-watching tourism.

The town of Húsavík and entrepreneur Orly Orlyson took this as an opportunity to develop a temporary museum dedicated to this film, the Eurovision Song Contest and the Icelandic national final. Film costumes and props as well as other outfits of the Icelandic participants in the European music event will be exhibited. The opening of the museum, which has been funded by the Icelandic government with about 13,000 Euros (2 million Icelandic Kroner), is scheduled for the week between May 18th and 22th, when this year’s Eurovision Song Contest takes place in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The museum is scheduled to operate as an attraction for two years, with the possibility of being transformed into a smaller permanent exhibition afterwards. (eap)
