Ocean Park Hong Kong is preparing itself for the future: As announced at the beginning of this month, the theme park plans to offer its guests park-wide, unlimited, free high-speed Wi-Fi. For the expansion of its Wi-Fi network and the introduction of innovative mobile app functions the park recently announced a partnership with Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited (HKBN). More than 470 Wi-Fi hotspots are to be installed across the park supporting more than 40,000 mobile devices with a transmission speed of up to one gigabyte per second. In addition, optical fibres will be installed within the park to make it possible to extend network bandwidth requirements to meet future demand and undergo system upgrades. Moreover, Ocean Park plans to introduce a mobile app which comprises six advanced functions including a Virtual Guided Tour. The completion of the Wi-Fi development project, which will be carried out in two phases, is scheduled for the first quarter of 2016. The total area covered by the service will be over 915,000 square meters, including the Ocean Express and the Cable Car route as well as the new waterpark set to open in 2017. (eap)
