Sweden: Gröna Lund Launches New Sky Jump In 2017

As the Swedish Gröna Lund theme park announced yesterday, visitors can look forward to the park’s new Sky Jump attraction in 2017. The 95 meter tower with the name “Ikaros” and manufactured by Intamin Amusement Rides will offer a completely new experience for adrenalin junkies: Whereas the ascent is similar to that on a regular free fall tower, once on top the seats suddenly tilt more than 90 degrees forward. What follows is the free fall in a horizontal position.

“I have pretty much experienced all that there is in an amusement park. So I can honestly say that this is one of the most terrifying drop towers in the world, but also one of the most exhilarating. The feeling of adrenalin pumping through your system as you fall towards the ground is hard to beat. I would really recommend everyone who has the courage to try ‘Ikaros’,” said Johan Tidstrand, majority owner of Parks and Resorts Scandinavia.

The name of this new Sky Jump is borrowed from Greek mythology, where Daedalus’ son Icarus flys with his feather and wax wings too close to the sun – and falls to the ground. The top decoration of the new drop tower will therefore consist of a golden sun. The Sky Jump will be the park’s 31st attraction, which until to date can only be found in a similar version at Florida’s Busch Gardens Tampa with the similar tower “Falcon’s Fury”. (eap)
