(eap) Soon, surfing in Sydney will not “only” be possible on the sea, but also on artificial waves at URBNSURF Sydney. The 3.6-hectare surf park at Olympia Park Sydney will open on May 13. Like the first URBNSURF surf park in Melbourne, the facility in Sydney has also been equipped with the “Wavegarden Cove®” technology from the Spanish manufacturer of the same name, Wavegarden. The technology creates 20 different types of waves so that both beginners and pros can surf in a safe and perfectly coordinated environment. The park is designed for around 1,000 visitors per day, who can relax in a café, on a rooftop bar, in a beach club or a pool in addition to enjoying surf sessions. Also, there are skate ramps, a playground for children, a surf shop as well as a surf academy where various surf and fitness courses can be booked.

But it’s not just in the surfing paradise of Australia that water sport enthusiasts can look forward to artificial surf parks. Several surf projects are also being planned or are already being implemented in Europe. These include a “WaveGarden Cove” surf lagoon near Birmingham, England and in Madrid, Spain as well as in Germany in Krefeld and Munich. The latter is the world’s first “Endless Surf” facility (from WhiteWater West), which we will be presenting to you in detail in our next EAP issue 4/2024. ■
