USA: Legoland Florida Plans New Resort

Legoland Florida Hotel

Following the opening of an onsite hotel in May last year (cf. EAP News from January 20, 2015), US media report that Legoland Florida, located in the city of Winter Haven, has submitted plans for the construction of a new resort outside the park area. The competent authority is still reviewing details of the project, which Legoland’s owner Merlin Entertainments calls “Oasis”. The new facility would be built on an uncultivated land adjacent to Lake Dexter, which is situated on the opposite side of Cypress Gardens Blvd, across from Legoland. According to the media reports, Merlin has already purchased the 23-hectare property last week for an amount of 4.6 million US dollars (around 4 million euros).

Plans call for the construction of a resort featuring 166 single-story duplex units, a pool, two ponds and a 1,100-square meter clubhouse. Legoland Florida has not made an official statement so far. However, a spokesman for the park stated that several announcements with regard to the theme park's future will be made soon. (eap)
