USA: Pittsburgh’s Sandcastle Waterpark to Undergo Massive Transformation for Upcoming 2022 Season

Better, brighter, fresher … Sandcastle Waterpark in Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania), part of Palace Entertainment (a subsidiary of the Parques Reunidos group), is currently undergoing a major revamp for the upcoming season, which begins there on May 21.

The multi-million US dollar improvement plan aims at enhancing the guest experience and includes the opening of a new attraction, in addition to a series of exciting events, an expanded operating calendar, and extensive renovation work throughout the park.

“Guests will be stunned when they see the all-new look of our world-class water park this year,” says Ricky Spicuzza, Sandcastle’s Assistant General Manager. “This began last season with the improvements to the park’s appearance, new food and beverage offerings, and new Jammin’ July special event. We are now building upon those successful changes this year and offering a brand-new Sandcastle experience unlike anything the Steel City has ever seen before.”

With “Bombs Away”, a new free-fall body slide will be added to the attractions lineup of the water park this season, which will be attached to the same tower as the existing “Lightning Express” slide. After the trap door in the enclosed launch capsule has opened, riders will be propelled at speeds up to 26 feet per second (around 29km/h) down the 300-feet (91 meter) long tube.

Palace Entertainment currently operates 25 entertainment and educational venues across ten different states in the US, and the group of parks in Pennsylvania also includes the Kennywood amusement park, the Idlewild & SoakZone amusement and waterpark complex, as well as the Dutch Wonderland amusement park.
