Iceland: Exhilaration over the Canyon with “Mega Zipline Iceland”

A flying experience over Svartaglijúfur Canyon will soon be available for brave adventurers with Mega Zipline Iceland. The Icelandic group Kambagil ehf, formed by companies and individuals passionate about creating attractions in Iceland, partnered with Canadian zipline manufacturer Skyline Ziplines Ltd and Montréal-based video and photo provider Kool Replay to implement this project.

The Mega Zipline Iceland offers a flight over a distance of one kilometer at a top speed of 120 kilometers per hour near Reykjavík. The attraction will be equipped with Skyline Ziplines’ Safe Launch system, which combines various safety functions and ensures reliable monitoring and management of the attraction with the help of various technologies such as RFID. In addition, the ride will be equipped with video systems from Kool Replay, which will automatically record the experience from different perspectives and make it available to visitors immediately after the ride.

“Our goal was to develop an attraction in Iceland that gave visitors a dose of adrenaline and a unique view of the country’s stunning natural landscape while offering the highest standards of safety and a unique video replay experience. We are pleased to work with Skyline and Kool Replay […],” explains Kambagil ehf project manager Halli Kristinsson.

Two different ride experiences are offered: The “Conventional ride: Free as a bird” offers a flying experience at lower speeds in a seated position, which allows for marveling at the landscape, while the descent in a prone position head first on the “Superman ride: Fast as a falcon” reaches higher speeds. In addition, the “Freefall Line: Plunge like a puffin” is offered, which imitates the jump of a puffin from a cliff into the sea, where a fall from a height of 15 meters is slowed down by the device on the last meters.
