Germany: Is Bali Therme Close to Be Sold?

As it became known on Monday, Theune Spa Management is currently in negotiations on a possible sales deal with Aspro Parks, in order to sell its related Bali Therme thermal bathing complex to the Spanish operating group. In early 2005, Stephan and Markus Theune had taken over Bali Therme as private investors. Five years ago, Cornelius Nolte assumed the position as Managing Director of Therme Bali, directly reporting to the owners. In addition to the subsidies of some 11.4 million Euros contributed by the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which were part of the acquisition contract signed 13 years ago, the owners invested a similar sum out of private funds. The payment of subsidies terminated at the end of 2014.

There are already plans for an expansion of the complex’ sauna facilities. However, due to the sales proposal those plans have been put on ice for the moment.

Once the sales negotiations have been successfully concluded, the running business operations of Bali Therme are expected to be continued in their current form. According to official figures, the thermal bathing complex welcomes around 500,000 guests per year.

We can only speculate about to what extent the plans for a new family combi-bathing complex on the site of the existing outdoor pool Siel (just two kilometers away from Bali Therme) had affected the sales plans of the Theune brothers. (eap)
