Netherlands: Efteling Announces Plans to Open New Family Coaster in 2020

A new family coaster is set to enthuse visitors to Dutch Efteling theme park from the start of the 2020 season – the new attraction, which will feature a “Max and Moritz” theme, will arise on the site of the existing, outdated bobsleigh coaster with construction works scheduled to start in September next year.

As Efteling revealed to EAP, the new family ride will be a double coaster from German manufacturer Mack Rides. The attraction – a Powered Coaster model – will feature two different tracks on which the two trains run in opposite direction. Its theming will be based on the “Max and Moritz” illustrated story by German poet Wilhelm Busch from 1865. Furthermore, the coaster will be especially designed for kids aged between four and ten years. Young park visitors with a minimum body height of one meter will be allowed to enjoy the new ride. Efteling will invest some 15 million Euros into its construction.

The expansion of the park’s eastern portion including the opening of a new attraction, which in the framework of the development plan “World of Efteling 2030” was originally announced for 2020 (cf. our park report in EAP, 2/18), has now been postponed for one year. (eap)
